Throughout our history, Cleveland College has educated students to provide balance in their chiropractic practices. Cleveland College educates doctors to address lifestyle behaviors as part of chiropractic care. Today, Cleveland extends its academic offerings to include the College of Graduate Studies with a Master of Science in Health Promotion. MSHP graduates will be expected to:
- Develop, implement and evaluate health promotion and wellness programs for individuals, groups or communities.
- Engage in policy issues locally, regionally and nationally.
- Advocate for the benefits of a healthier lifestyle.
- Conduct research in the area of public health.
The program will take advantage of a strong science curriculum that has been developed at Cleveland College over its 80-year history. It concludes with a capstone project that provides an opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge acquired through the program in a real life setting. Graduates of the program will be prepared to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam or a comparable certification.
There is no doubt that this is the perfect time to consider a career in health promotion. Researchers report that 70-80 percent of cancers and heart disease is preventable by healthy lifestyle choices. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the health education profession is expected to grow much faster than the average for all professions.
